Detailed Review

Design

HP Spectre X360 13

This has got the Intel 10th gen ice Lake i7 processor complemented by a one terabyte intel SSD also the 32 gig intel obtained that we are going to find on every single laptop. This has 16 gigs of ram and then the most impressive feature is to find basic everywhere else is a 13.3 inch 4k o LED display that has from 1000 it’s a brightness color accuracy off the charts. This is what makes this model intriguing besides the fact that it has everything else going for it does have a fingerprint reader and it also has the windows hello IR camera that’s been redesigned. There has been just about a full redesign of the bezel this has a 90 percent screen to body ratio. This laptop also got slimmer so it did lose some weight even though it maintained that 13-inch display 13.3 to be exact and just everything about it looks great. The Intel iris plus graphics another great thing for something that is known a 360 two-in-one. This has got the carrying case as well in it.

Dell New XPS 13

The keyboard of this laptop has also been lifted over from the XPS 13 2& 1 it goes edge to edge. It has a little bit bigger fingerprint sensor is in the top right built into the power button. This is not the same keyboard underneath the surface as the XPS 13 2 & 1 they’ve kind of ditched the butterfly style mechanism with the shallow travel and this is a little more of a standard XPS 13 keyboard as millimeter travel feels like really soft and nice to touch on. They have made some changes here and there. The larger keycap stuff like that it feels nice to type on and with that new keyboard and the bigger display have a little more room at the bottom for a larger touchpad and that’s exactly what Dell is done off. It’s a little bit wider a little bit taller and always like to see bigger touchpads on 13-inch laptops. Every little centimeter of this device has been utilized to its full extent which is a good thing about this device. The small bezel along the bottom is good that the chin is basically erased and the camera is still built into the top bezel.

Specifications

HP Spectre X360 13

The HP Spectre360 32 T it’s a 13.3 inch two and one with pen support. The specifications on this unit are as follows the CPU is the ice Lake Fork or a thread 1065 i7 that has a base clock of 1.3 gigahertz. The single-core boost of 3.9 gigabits a 15-watt chip that can be configured to 25 watts in the high-performance mode it has onboard intel iris plus 940 graphics with 16 gigabytes of onboard low power ddr4 ex 3733 megahertz ram running into the old channel. The panel is a 4k AMOLED but we can also get a full HD and both are multi-touch powering it is a 60-watt hour battery which got about 5 hours of one time slowly do expect more from the Full HD IPS panel. The Wi-Fi in it was very good it uses an intel Wi-Fi 6 an x201 card the 512-gigabyte NVME SSD has decent read speeds of 3465 megabytes per second and write speeds of 2385 megabytes per second. The 13 t is available in silver or blue or even black starting price is $1,200 and the unit retails for $1,350 very nice. The 65-watt power brick is nice and small with a lovely braided cable we also get an active pen the battery and to spare nibs and also we get the HP Spectre which is a very nice small looking laptop fantastic so its weight is 2 pounds 10 ounces amazingly light and then the 65-watt power brick it just breaks three pounds four ounces.

Dell New XPS 13

An extra feature is that there is an IR camera up too so we can use Windows, hello it’s been a complaint about the XPS 13 for a while we know that it hasn’t featured Windows, hello and it’s right up there you wouldn’t even notice it because it’s the same size bezel on top another small change has been brought from the 13 – and one is the actual materials that are being used. There’s more aluminum in this device than there was in the future like on the sides where you have a taller wall of aluminum it’s kind of a diamond cut edge. It looks slick and that gives access to the ports which is a USB C port and a micro SD card slot and the other side has just one USB C port and a headphone jack. There is one less USB C port than last time and Dell says that they have to cut out that one just to fit in the larger keyboard and all the other things as they’re changing with the design of it so you’re down one USB C port on the new XPS 13.

Comfort

HP Spectre X360 13

It’s so lightweight that we can just hold it with the fingertips. The screen is gorgeous the OLED panel has great blacks nice and sharp great colors. The bezels are nice and thin. It is a very stiff chassis as well. The lid stays very stiff and we still have space for the webcam up top. It has a 720p webcam and it looks fairly decent. The colors and the microphones also are pretty good. There is a privacy shutter on the right-hand side a little bit hard. This is typical with an OLED panel and there’s no backlight bleed at all. Another advantage of having an OLED panel is it copes with reflections very well under bright light outside it’s perfectly visible even when we tilt the screen back. This has got a reflective paired to screen as well and it’s nice and clear. The hinge is also pretty stiff it is four to one that’s very important. The laptop tilts rather than the screen going back and of course with it being at two and one we cannot have it in there. This type of modes like presentation mode ideal for sitting on there and a bed or something like that it’s a touchscreen and it’s very responsive. The aluminum lid is a nice clean-looking HP logo reflective in the center it’s nice and sharp looking no fingerprints so it’s perfect as a business laptop.

Dell New XPS 13

The speakers are located on the bottom of the laptop on the left and right downward-firing but they sound very good for downward-firing speakers a really good range of sound. It’s all-encompassing it’s got a bit of a surround effect to it along with some really good stereo separation. A pair of headphones or Bluetooth headphones will always sound the best. The webcam on this one is not spectacular it’s located up in the upper bezel and as a result, it is tiny. The quality isn’t great it’s only 720p but it does provide a better angle versus prior generations of the XPS laptop that used to locate that webcam in the lower bezel so there’s an improvement in an angle not necessarily an improvement in quality. We did like the fact that this one’s got two Thunderbolt 3 ports on it one on the left and one on the right these are four-lane Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Features

HP Spectre X360 13

A nice chipset style keyboard decent travel it feels good we had already looked at this previous generation that hasn’t changed. They have a Windows Hello IR camera at the very top of this machine. It’s pretty amazing and then to boot it’s a boot left side of the machine we have the power button right and we have the headphone jack. This has a type a port that has a little cover and then on the right side it has a micro SD card slot which we appreciate something a lot of manufacturers are doing away with SD card support even in the form of micro. HP has a camera privacy switch a type C port this has Thunderbolt another type C port. The keyboard is very clean-looking made of aluminum and it doesn’t show fingerprints which are nice and sharp.

Dell New XPS 13

A very attractive Windows laptop from Dell this is their new flagship XPS 13 a nice and compact device that makes very efficient use of its display. The price point on these is going to vary based on the configuration these started around $1200 with an i5 processor and a non-touch display and they work their way up from there. The hardware part of this laptop has an i7 processor a 10 65 g7 that has the iris plus graphics. We would strongly suggest that if you are in the market for one of these spend a little bit more to get that I 7 processors because it has better graphics than the i5 version that they’re offering so that’s a very good investment for the future. This laptop has better graphical performance not only for games but for video editing video production video capture photo editing anything that’s going to make use of the graphics system will benefit from that uptick in a performance that is a good investment to make. The 13-inch display it’s 13.4 inches and they have a few different options for it so this one has a 1900 by 1200 resolution display and it also has touch built-in because it has a touch panel on it. It’s very shiny and they offer a less expensive display with the same resolution and brightness for a little bit less without touch and it’s a matte finish.

Conclusion

Compared to HP Spectre X360 13 and Dell New XPS 13, we found that Dell New XPS 13 is good and best to buy. Because the XPS 13 has been the favorite laptop for years but it has been a while since the device has gotten a full redesign but ahead of CES. Dell has brought over the best features from there to include it in the standard clamshell XPS 13 like for example the screen which is a new 16 by 10 screen as opposed to a 16 by 9 screen we get a little more height and a little more screen space and is a really good choice for Dell. The keyboard has nice large keys they’re well-spaced good travel to them very easy to type on. In the upper right-hand corner of the keyboard you’ve got a power button that doubles as a fingerprint reader for Windows hello also very happy with the trackpad here too, it’s a very nice trackpad that’s very accurate and doesn’t often register any inadvertent touches. So, overall they’ve done a nice job with the industrial design.
